Between 24–26 August, BROUK President Tun Khin participated in the Stakeholders’ Dialogue: Takeaway to the High-Level Conference on the Rohingya Situation, hosted by the Government of Bangladesh, in Dhaka. The Dialogue was a vital preparatory platform ahead of the UN High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar, to be held alongside the General Assembly next month.
Organised by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dialogue gathered senior diplomats, government representatives and UN officials- but most importantly, it centred on hearing directly from Rohingya representatives. This rare platform enabled Rohingya voices to set out clear priorities and demands for the international community, to be carried forward to the UN conference.
Opening the high-level segment, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stressed that the Rohingya crisis must remain firmly on the global agenda, calling for concrete solutions to ensure safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation.
Tun Khin was a key speaker in several thematic sessions, including discussions on confidence-building measures for repatriation and a sustainable, time-bound roadmap for resolving the Rohingya crisis. He urged the international community to finally deliver the accountability and protection promised eight years ago, warning that: “Neglect is not neutral – failure to act now will mean allowing genocide to continue under a new name.”
