Starving to death: the latest phase of the Rohingya genocide

This report—the eleventh in our ongoing series—documents sustained violations of the International Court of Justice’s binding orders to protect the Rohingya, issued as part of The Gambia’s genocide case against Myanmar. Covering the period 1 January – 23 May 2025, it aligns with Myanmar’s most recent reporting deadline under the ICJ’s provisional measures.

Drawing on first-hand accounts from Rakhine State, the report exposes the Rohingya’s worsening humanitarian crisis—marked by starvation and extreme deprivation—and situates it within Myanmar’s broader, regime-driven emergency. It also highlights atrocity crimes and persecution carried out by the Arakan Army, further exacerbating the threats of starvation and disease.
