On 2 October 2025, BROUK President Tun Khin joined leading human rights experts and advocates in Washington D.C. for the launch of ‘Critical Crossroads: Genocide Risk Assessment for Burma’s Minority Communities.’
The event, organised by the Burma Human Rights Network (BHRN) with partner support from the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), the Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), and InterAction, marked the release of a major new report authored by Dr. Ashley Greene.
Moderated by Rachel Frost Tway of InterAction, the panel included Dr. Simone Abel, Kyaw Win (Executive Director, BHRN), and Tun Khin (President, BROUK).
The discussion examined the drivers of persecution across Myanmar – from the military’s systematic targeting of minorities to the impunity that continues to shield perpetrators. Panellists highlighted how patterns of violence against Rohingya, Chin, Kachin, Karen, and other communities reflect a nationwide crisis that demands an urgent international response.
In his remarks, Tun Khin emphasised that the Rohingya genocide cannot be viewed in isolation, warning that similar tactics are now being used against other minority groups. He reiterated BROUK’s call for coordinated global action to hold all perpetrators accountable and prevent further atrocities.
The event concluded with a call for stronger international mechanisms, including targeted sanctions, support for documentation efforts, and justice through international courts.
